On 9 June 2021, we launched our partnership with Monzo in order to donate tech to local under-funded schools. Monzo is a leading UK online bank on a mission to make money work for everyone.
Supporting local communities
Hackney, an area local to Monzo and ourselves, has one of the highest rates of economic disadvantage of any London borough. Whilst the UK Government scheme has gone some way to support schools with tech devices, this has only scratched the surface for many schools.
Many schools in the community are in need of tech donations - to support remote learning during lockdown and to help their students gain the right digital skills and qualifications to set them up for success.
A key part of Open Palm’s work is our Project Spark initiative, which supports under-funded schools and students. We’ve teamed up with Monzo who are donating surplus laptops they may have to support the local community. We have been working to match Monzo with schools that have trouble accessing the right funding or the right technology.
On 9 June 2021, we were able to facilitate a donation of laptops to Hackney New School - to help their students access the right resources to support digital learning.

The students were highly engaged and were excited to use the devices, which will make it easier to access various lessons including English, Geography and History.
The tech sector in London is thriving - and Monzo is no exception. Surplus donations of tech like these can help local schools deliver the digital skills needed.
We are delighted to partner with Monzo and we look forward to supporting more students in future.
